LeBron James spearheads a remarkable comeback for the Lakers, securing a victory over the Clippers.
In yet another remarkable performance, LeBron James, along with the Lakers, appeared to be on the verge of a resounding defeat as the Clippers took a commanding 98-77 lead early in the final quarter. However, a motivated James played a pivotal role in the Lakers outscoring the Clippers 39-16 in the fourth quarter, securing the victory.
Reflecting on the comeback, James emphasized that the game is never over until the final seconds, stating in an on-court interview after the win. Supporting James, Anthony Davis contributed 20 points and 12 rebounds, while D'Angelo Russell added 18 points, and Rui Hachimura scored 13. Kawhi Leonard led the Clippers' scoring with 26 points.
Clippers coach Tyronn Lue took accountability for the defeat, acknowledging, "When you're up by 21 points, you can't lose a game like that." He expressed that such a situation had not occurred during his coaching tenure, especially losing a 21-point lead in the fourth quarter.
In other matchups on Wednesday, Nikola Jokic secured his fourth consecutive triple-double as the Denver Nuggets dominated the Sacramento Kings with a 117-96 victory. The two-time former NBA Most Valuable Player recorded 14 points, 14 rebounds, and 11 assists, marking his 19th triple-double of the season. Jokic entered the game amidst an intriguing matchup with Sacramento's Domantas Sabonis, who had been in impressive form, notching three consecutive triple-doubles since the All-Star break.
However, Denver successfully contained Sabonis as the Nuggets orchestrated an impressive comeback in the second quarter, reversing the game's momentum after being behind by 15 points. Sacramento, without the services of the injured playmaker De'Aaron Fox, had surged to a 47-32 lead, sparking expectations of a morale-boosting victory on the road.
Denver mounted a strong comeback with a 21-4 run, seizing control of the game. Jamal Murray played a standout role, finishing with 32 points as the Nuggets established a 65-55 halftime lead. They continued their dominance by outscoring Sacramento 35-17 in the third quarter, ultimately securing a comfortable 21-point victory.
With this win, the reigning NBA champions, Denver, now hold the third position in the Western Conference with a 40-19 record. On the other hand, Sacramento, with a 33-25 record, dropped to the eighth place in the standings.
In another match, Anthony Edwards shrugged off a persistent ankle injury, contributing 34 points as the Minnesota Timberwolves, leading the Western Conference, managed to overcome the resilient efforts of the struggling Memphis Grizzlies to secure a hard-fought 110-101 victory. Despite Memphis taking an early 14-point lead in the first quarter and holding a double-digit lead in the third, Minnesota rallied back to clinch their 42nd win of the season. Edwards led the scoring for the Timberwolves, with four other players from Minnesota reaching double figures.
Meanwhile, in Toronto, Luka Doncic marked his 25th birthday with a 30-point triple-double, guiding the Dallas Mavericks to a 136-125 victory over the Raptors. Following a closely contested first half that saw Toronto take a slim 67-66 lead at halftime, Doncic ignited a 40-point third quarter, helping Dallas pull away. Doncic concluded the game with 16 assists and 11 rebounds to complete his triple-double.
Reflecting on Doncic's performance, Dallas coach Jason Kidd remarked, "Just a normal game, a triple-double. He was really good. Luka is our leader, and he was really good tonight."
However, Cleveland couldn't replicate their success from Tuesday's win over Dallas in their road game against Chicago, as the Bulls emerged victorious with a 132-123 win in double overtime. Donovan Mitchell had a chance to seal the victory for Cleveland in the first period of overtime, but his 20-foot jump shot missed as time expired.
