The Grammy winner of "Renaissance" discloses the title for the upcoming March 29 release.
Beyoncé unveiled the title of her much-anticipated country album on Tuesday: "Cowboy Carter." The Grammy winner for "Renaissance" made this announcement through a post on her website, and she also shared the image and preorder link on her Instagram stories. In a playful nod to the cover of "Act I: Renaissance," where she is depicted riding a mirrored, disco ball-esque horse, the preview image for "Act II: Cowboy Carter" features a horse saddle adorned with a red, white, and blue county fair sash.
Beyoncé has already released two country songs from the upcoming album, namely "Texas Hold ‘Em" and "16 Carriages." The former debuted at No. 1 on the country music charts, marking Beyoncé as the first Black woman to achieve this milestone, while "16 Carriages" made an impressive debut at No. 9.
The announcement of "Act II" as a follow-up to "Renaissance" occurred on Super Bowl Sunday after a Verizon ad titled "Can’t Be Broken." Despite "Renaissance" winning four Grammy awards in February, including Best Dance/Electronic Album, bringing Beyoncé's Grammy total to a record-breaking 32, the announcement on Feb. 11 followed criticism from her husband, Jay-Z, who expressed dissatisfaction with the Grammys for repeatedly snubbing her in the Album of the Year category.
During the ceremony, Jay-Z pointed out the discrepancy, stating, "At least get it close to right, and obviously it’s subjective because it’s music and it’s opinion-based, but you know some things, you know, I don’t want to embarrass this young lady, but she has more Grammys than everyone but never won Album of the Year."
Beyoncé's album is set to release just a month before Taylor Swift's highly anticipated new album, which Taylor announced at the Grammys and is scheduled for an April release.
