Cam Sutton of the Detroit Lions is being sought in Florida regarding a physical altercation.

Cam Sutton, a cornerback for the Detroit Lions, is being sought in connection with an alleged domestic violence incident in Florida.

Earlier this month, the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant for Sutton's arrest on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation stemming from an incident in Lutz, Florida, a suburb of Tampa.

According to Phil Martello, a spokesperson for the sheriff's office, deputies responded to a report of domestic violence in progress involving Sutton, 29, and a female at approximately 5 a.m. on March 7.

Martello stated that the victim bore injuries consistent with an altercation, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant on the same day. Subsequently, on Wednesday, the sheriff's office utilized social media to request assistance in locating Sutton.

In their post, the department mentioned that Sutton might be operating a Jeep Grand Wagoneer and provided the license plate number. Martello indicated that Sutton is suspected to be in Florida rather than Michigan.

"We executed the warrant on the seventh due to the substantial evidence uncovered at the scene," Martello explained. "We couldn't locate him here in Tampa, and it's likely he fled. While we've received a few hits on his license plate from license plate readers, we haven't been successful in locating him here. Therefore, that's the current situation.

"They've tried reaching out to him but haven't been able to reach him by phone. Our detectives have pursued all possible avenues to contact him, which led to us resorting to posting on social media."

The Lions issued a statement regarding the matter on Wednesday afternoon, stating, "We were made aware of the ongoing legal matter involving Cam Sutton this morning. We will remain vigilant in monitoring the situation and have no additional comments to provide at this time."

After inking a three-year, $33 million contract last offseason, Sutton experienced a disappointing debut season with the Lions. Despite starting all 17 regular-season games, he recorded 65 tackles and just one interception. However, he encountered difficulties towards the end of the season and during playoff matches, particularly when defending against opposing teams' top receivers.

To strengthen their secondary during the current offseason, the Lions acquired Carlton Davis III through a trade and signed Amik Robertson in free agency. Davis was anticipated to assume the role of the team's primary cornerback alongside Sutton, while Robertson and Emmanuel Moseley were slated to serve as the top backup options.
