Former college football standout, the son of the associate head coach at Texas A&M, has been apprehended in connection with the deaths of his girlfriend and their unborn child, allegedly due to poisoning.

Blaise Taylor, currently employed as an analyst at Texas A&M and son of the school’s associate head coach, was apprehended in Utah on Thursday following his indictment in the 2023 deaths of his girlfriend and her unborn child, as per Nashville police.

Taylor, a former standout college football player at Arkansas State, was indicted on Wednesday by a Nashville grand jury and charged with two counts of first-degree murder related to the poisoning deaths of his girlfriend and her five-month-old fetus, "which Taylor is alleged to have fathered," stated a release from the Nashville Police Department.

He was held without bail at the Cache County Jail in Logan, Utah, according to jail records on Friday night. No attorney for Taylor was listed in the jail records.

According to the police, Taylor is accused of poisoning Benning without her knowledge during a visit to her Lebanon Pike apartment on the night of February 25.

Benning was rushed to a hospital that night after Taylor called 911, claiming that "Benning appeared to be having an allergic reaction," police said. Sadly, her unborn baby passed away two days later, and Benning herself died on March 6, 2023. Authorities were unable to interview her before her death.

Police did not provide details regarding the alleged poisoning, but they mentioned that months of investigation, involving scientists from crime laboratories and doctors from the Medical Examiner’s Office, led to the murder indictment against Taylor.

After the deaths, Taylor relocated to Utah, as per police. Nashville police are collaborating with Utah authorities to facilitate his return.

Taylor was recently appointed as an analyst at Texas A&M, but the university announced on Friday night that he has been "placed on suspension pending an investigation." He played as a defensive back at Arkansas State from 2014 to 2017, during which time his father, Trooper Taylor, served as a defensive backs coach at the school.

Trooper Taylor currently holds the position of associate head coach on offense and running backs coach at Texas A&M. With over 30 years of coaching experience, he has coached at various institutions, including Baylor, New Mexico, Tulane, Tennessee, Oklahoma State, and Auburn during its 2010 BCS National Championship run.

In a statement released by the university, Texas A&M head football coach Mike Elko expressed condolences to all those affected by the tragic situation and emphasized the importance of allowing the legal process to unfold with diligence and fairness. He also extended prayers and support to Coach Trooper Taylor, Dr. Evelyn Taylor, and their family during this challenging time.
