The Warriors' trio of stars proved ineffective against the unavoidable outcome in their defeat.

In Sacramento, as the final buzzer echoed and the Warriors faced defeat, there was no outburst of frustration, no defiant gestures, no disrespect towards their victorious opponents. Instead, there was a symbolic acknowledgment of the Sacramento Kings' triumph and a sober recognition of the inevitable reality that unfolded in a decisive 118-94 loss in the NBA Play-In Tournament on Tuesday night at Golden 1 Center. "We've been incredibly fortunate here with exceptional players, multiple championships, and appearances in the Finals," remarked coach Steve Kerr. "We've experienced the pinnacle of success. And now, this is the other side of the coin. This is life. This is the way things unfold. You can't remain at the top indefinitely." The illustrious recent history of the Golden State Warriors offered no advantage against the youthful, more determined Sacramento Kings in this play-in matchup. Mike Evans and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers reach a $52 million, two-year agreement.

Evans, 30, was scheduled to become a free agent in the NFL the following week.

Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht, who selected Evans with his first draft pick as a general manager, declared last week at the NFL scouting combine that he intended to make Evans a "Buc for life." The two parties attempted to reach an agreement before the 2023 regular season, but negotiations were postponed until after the season when a deadline of September 9th was missed.

The 30-year-old Evans' intention to test the NFL free-agent market, which opens next week, was only announced on Friday. Although he wanted to see what else was out there, he was apparently still open to rejoining the Buccaneers.

Take that as the leverage Evans needed to force the Buccaneers to make an offer he couldn't turn down.

a reliable creator
After being drafted No. 7 overall out of Texas A&M, Evans joined the league in 2014 and has been among the most reliable wide receivers ever. He has at least 1,000 receiving yards and at least 67 receptions in each of his ten NFL seasons. He recorded the third-most receiving yards (1,255), the second-most touchdowns (13) and the third-most balls grabbed (79) in 2023.

With 1,000 receiving yards in each of his first ten seasons, Evans is the first wide receiver in NFL history to accomplish this feat. The second receiver to record ten consecutive seasons with 1,000 yards is him as well. With 14, only Jerry Rice had more.

Now that Evans is back in the picture, Licht can focus on deciding whether to sign quarterback Baker Mayfield again and safety Antoine Winfield Jr.
