The men's Final Four lineup is now complete following the triumphs of top-seeded Purdue and the eleventh-seeded North Carolina State on Sunday.
North Carolina State's surprising journey continued with a 76-64 upset victory over fourth-seeded Duke in the Elite Eight. Despite trailing at halftime, NC State surged in the second half, spearheaded by forward DJ Burns, who delivered an impressive performance with 29 points and four rebounds. This win marks their ninth consecutive victory and propels them to their first Final Four appearance since 1983, the same year they secured their second, and most recent, national championship. Burns attributed their success to a collective shift in commitment, emphasizing improved team dynamics both on and off the court.
Earlier, the Wolfpack's women's basketball team secured their place in the women's Final Four. With this achievement, NC State becomes the first NCAA Division I program since South Carolina in 2017 to have both their men's and women's basketball teams advance to the Final Four.
The men's Wolfpack team joins the ranks of the sixth No. 11 seed to reach the Final Four, a feat not accomplished since UCLA in 2021.
In another Sunday matchup, the Boilermakers overcame second-seeded Tennessee with a score of 72-66, securing Purdue's first Final Four appearance since 1980. The standout performance came from star center Zach Edey, who dominated with an impressive 40 points and 16 rebounds.
Following the game, Edey was questioned about his role in leading the team to the Final Four. He emphasized that it was a collective effort by the entire team.
"We have a lot of players who were dedicated and approached the game with the right mindset. We were prepared for a tough battle," Edey stated to the press. "We anticipated the challenges they would throw at us and remained unfazed by their aggressive defense."
The Final Four is slated to commence on April 6, with Purdue and NC State set to clash. Meanwhile, UConn and Alabama will square off in the other Final Four matchup at State Farm Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. The men's national championship game is scheduled for April 8.
